The Metric System

While your baby is in the hospital, everything involving him will be measured using the metric system. From how much he weighs to how much he's eating, it's all metric. So here are three things you can pass along to friends and family so they can do their own conversions and stop asking you, "so... how many pounds is that?"
  1. There are 454 grams in one pound.
  2. There are 30 mL or cc in one ounce.
  3. There are 2.54 cm in one inch.
There you go! That's all you need to know to make it more familiar. Incidentally, since over 95% of the world uses the metric system, it's not a bad thing to know anyway...

good thing to share... it confused us too at first, luckily they had charts in the NICU to help us convert. we still measure all her meds in mL.

You are so right! We still do everything in metrics - I actually printed it out and posted it on her isolette because I had to ask so often the conversion!
