My Religion and Politics

Wow, that's a heavy title, now isn't it?

This is actually going to be rather short and sweet.

I'm Catholic and pretty traditional. That's really all I'll say on that matter. I have definite opinions and views (and that's good!), but I promise never to try and push them on you or "save" you or anything else. That's not my agenda.

Here is the one and only exception to that:

I am unapologetically Pro-Life. That's never going to change. And I will continue to occasionally post things to that end. There are a whole host of reasons I believe what I believe, but what completely sealed the deal for me was seeing my tiny baby born at 24 weeks and learning that in some places it was still legal to abort her at that point.

If you don't agree with my posts, feel free to share in the comments. I am certainly not opposed to differing views.

But I am opposed to abortion.

I'm with you all the way! Thanks for posting on the tough stuff!

Totally support your view (and right to it). Finding having had a preemie though makes me see things in two special ways. It is horrifying to think someone could abort a fetus at 24 weeks for no medical reason. On the other hand, had my HELLP syndrome occurred weeks earlier as it does for some, let's say at 21 weeks, I would have had to face a very awful choice. We waited as long as we could to deliver my 28 weeker and I still ended up in the ICU for 4 days with massive organ failure and my husband was told it might be fatal in my case. Fortunately 28 weeks is well within viability. I shudder to think what would have happened had my HELLP syndrome occurred 21-22 weeks. (And yes we can argue some babies are saved at this age but you see my point) Anwyay long story short, this is why I would absolutely fight anyone believing there are not cases where the mom's health is in danger. I was one of them :(

Not to pick a fight or anything, just playing devil's advocate for a minute. What about in cases such as rape that results in pregnancy?

Ryann- It's a good question and I don't mind answering it; I know you're not picking a fight! I know there are many who will disagree with me and that's fine... but, even in the event of rape, I do not believe in abortion. I refuse to believe the best solution is the termination of an innocent life. The "problem" isn't the baby, it's the violent act. I also think it's critical to note that it is a VERY small percentage of abortions that are being performed a) because of a rape, b) because of incest, or c) to save the mother.

Just saying...

Good point. I've never had to consider it for myself and I guess I must not be hard core pro-anything because I've not ever given it much thought.
